Greg Riley MS CPDT
Canine Behavior Consultant & Professional Dog Trainer
Master Aggression Specialist
Director of Training - The Academy at Wagging Tails Pet Resort
A lover of dogs, and the natural world in general since childhood, Greg was originally drawn to the art and science of dog training through the writings & musings of the Monks of New Skete; a monastic community that evolved into German Shepherd breeders and dog trainers who understand the inherent nature of dogs and their ability to draw us out of our selves and towards a deeper connection with the more-than-human-world, and to the mystery of creation. Humbled by such experience, it is yet still a source of pride for Greg to be a recommended dog trainer by those very same monks today.
The area's foremost expert in canine cognition and emotion, a Master Aggression Specialist, one of the most in-demand Dog Trainers in Massachusetts, and #1 in humane off leash control training, Greg Riley is an Anthrozoologist, an Applied Canine Behaviorist, and a professional canine educator. Greg has been working with dogs for the better part of two decades, and has completed multiple training apprenticeships and a Master’s Degree in Anthrozoology with depth of study in Ethology, canine learning theory and behavior, and humane training methodologies. Greg also stays current on the latest scientific research and developments, participating in courses such as his recently completed Master Aggression Specialist course for trainers and behavior consultants with Michael Shikashio CDBC, Dr. Chris Pachel DVM, DACVB, CABC, Jessica Dolce CCFE and Kim Brophey CDBC, advanced education in dog emotion & cognition out of Duke University's Canine Cognition Center, animal behavior and welfare through The University of Edinburgh, and advanced dog training courses through The Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers, The Ethology Institute of Cambridge, and AbsoluteDogs Ltd. to name just a few. Further, Greg is a pioneer and instructor in the humane application and use of electronic collar technologies, and a student with a life-long dedication to understanding the ever expanding field of nonhuman-animal communication - all of which experience ensures a science-based and humane training experience that maximizes the human-canine bond while training dogs to reach their highest potential.
Here at The Academy Greg specializes in Positive Marker Training, Game-Based Personality Development Training, Off-Leash Proficiency Training, and Problematic Behavioral Rehabilitation and Training Therapies; all through the employment of humane methodologies. Greg is also a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and is a certified trainer and evaluator for both the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen, and the APDT C.L.A.S.S. Canine Life and Social Skills training programs. Greg also comes recommended by several area Veterinarians, Animal Control Officers, and the aforementioned Monks of New Skete for his compassionate demeanor, humane approach to behavioral interventions, and proven results.
Greg celebrates each animal's unique characteristics, and will work with yours to give them the specific help & guidance they need. He takes the time to deeply connect and lovingly bond with your best friend, and all of his training protocols are then informed by that bond and tailored to your pet's unique personality and disposition. This is a personal, boutique style training experience that enhances the human-canine connection and results in dogs who are happy & eager to learn; a genuinely fun and joyful training experience yielding spectacular results.
Whether you’re thinking about getting a pet, have a new pet, or already love a pet with emotional or behavioral problems... Greg and his team can help!
